Mission Statement: The mission of the Lincolnwood Parks & Recreation Department is to provide enjoyable, quality programs and attractive, safe facilities to improve the health, welfare and pleasure of all the residents of Lincolnwood.

The Parks and Recreation Department is responsible for a wide array of programs for residents of all ages and interests. The Village's thirteen parks host an assortment of recreational programs featuring swimming, tennis, ice-skating and softball. A popular program of activities for senior citizens are also offered, as is a subsidized taxi service available for those age 62 and over. The department's largest annual event is the 5K-10K Turkey Trot, which attracts more than 1,800 runners annually and is seen as one of the premier events of its kind in the Chicago area. It's held on the third Sunday of November each year.

Through a joint agreement with the Maine-Niles Association of Special Recreation, member agencies are committed to helping all individuals with special needs enjoy traditional recreation programs. Many people achieve this through participation in a M-NASR program, but others may have greater success in an activity held in their own recreation agency. M-NASR and their member agencies attempt to provide accommodations to allow for successful inclusion of individuals with disabilities in the activities of member recreation agencies.

The Proesel Park Family Aquatic Center, located one block west of Lincoln Avenue on Kostner, is an admittance by membership only facility. (Village residents and guests of members can pay a daily admission fee.) Membership information is contained in the Department Summer Brochure, which is available in late February. The Aquatic Center is open from June through August.

The department also manages summer day camps for kids age 2 and up, and special camps that focus on particular sports of interest to children, such as basketball, baseball and tennis.

Fall and winter after-school recreational programs are held as well at Lincolnwood's three schools, and the Community Center. The Parks and Recreation Department also handles the rental of the Community Center, and the issuance of Picnic Permits. Groups with 10 people or more, at any of the parks or the shelter are required to obtain a permit to use the picnic area. Contact the Parks Department at (847) 677-9740 for more information.
