The Village of Lincolnwood is aware of immigration enforcement activity being conducted in the Chicagoland area, including Lincolnwood, by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other federal law enforcement agencies now tasked with immigration related enforcement.
The Illinois TRUST Act prevents the Lincolnwood Police Department from participating in or assisting with federal immigration enforcement. All Village Police Officers are trained in the TRUST Act requirements. Furthermore, no federal agency tasked with immigration enforcement has contacted the Village of Lincolnwood or the Lincolnwood Police Department.
The Village understands this is a very concerning topic for many. All individuals, regardless of immigration status, have legal rights. The following resources are available to those seeking assistance:
In an immigration emergency or to report ICE activity, call the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) Family Support Hotline at 1-855-HELP-MY-FAMILY (1-855-435-7693).
As a reminder, when residents call 911, Police Officers respond immediately and will not be accompanied by federal authorities enforcing suspected immigration violations. Officers will never ask about a person’s immigration status, and the Police Department does not detain anyone based solely on immigration status or assist with immigration investigations.
